Crow-Armstrong Makes History
Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 43rd and 44th home runs of the season, breaking the Chicago Cubs' franchise record for left-handed batters. He led off the third inning with a homer, surpassing Billy Williams' mark set in 1970. In the seventh, Crow-Armstrong added another leadoff shot, recording his 13th career multi-homer game and seventh this season. He also contributed an RBI triple in the fifth, driving in Carson Kelly.[S1]
Imanaga and Bregman Power Cubs
Shota Imanaga (11-10) allowed one run on three hits over six innings, retiring 11 consecutive batters before Ronald Acuna Jr. doubled and scored in the sixth. Imanaga struck out eight and walked none. Alex Bregman went 3 for 4 with a home run, triple, double, and four RBIs. Bregman led off the fourth with his 26th home run, and his triple in the fifth scored two runs. The Cubs stayed a half-game ahead of the Phillies for the first NL wild card.[S1]
Braves Miss Clinching Opportunity
The Braves could have clinched a playoff spot with a win and results elsewhere, but starter J.R. Ritchie (1-3) allowed six runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Both teams are off Thursday. The Braves travel to Houston for a three-game series starting Friday, while the Cubs travel to Cincinnati. Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, out since August 16 with a left oblique strain, took six at-bats in a simulated game Wednesday and is on schedule to be activated Friday, manager Craig Counsell said.[S1]
